Westpac are one of the “big five” banks in New Zealand with around 5,000 employees and over 150 branches nationwide. They approached Infinity (my employer at the time) in early 2013 to help them completely rebuild their online banking website. I was involved in a series of early pitches to present visual concepts to key stakeholders of the big bank. The selected concept was a collaboration between myself and one other colleague. It carries a visual language that is reserved enough for the extremely broad target audience, but still retains a subtle Kiwi charm.
Alongside this, myself and my colleague were involved with the early strategic development, information architecture, and planning for the project. This eventuated in us designing the wireframes alongside the UX lead at Westpac as well as preparing parts of the user testing.
Later I became the sole visual designer on the project. I worked closely with Westpac’s UX lead to refine the visual style and the user experience. This included developing extensive user flows, designing icons, comprehensive responsive design, and ensuring the design development held true to the quality and strength of the initial concept.
